TCF (test de connaissance du français)


TCF AP (All Public)

TCF AP (Test de Connaissance du Français) is an evaluation test of the French language level. The objective is to assess and certify the French language level for the people for whom French is a foreign language. All candidates receive a certificate based on results evaluating them according to 6 levels (from A1 to C2) from the skills scale of the Common European Framework of References (CEFR). TCF Certificate can be an obligatory document for acceptance in French universities and French-speaking countries.

Since 2007, TCF certificate is obligatory for candidates who want to access the 3rd grade of study in Armenia (Aspirantura).

TCF AP exam is composed of 3 parts:

Obligatory part

Writing expression (facultative)

Speaking expression (facultative)

The obligatory part is divided into 3 tests; speaking comprehension (29 items), writing comprehension (29 items) and control of language structures (18 items).

The duration of the obligatory part  is 85 minutes.

The speaking expression test of TCF is composed of 3 tasks, in total lasting 12 minutes

The writing expression test of TCF has 3 tasks. They evaluate and position candidates on one of the 6 levels of the CEFRL. The total duration is one hour.

The TCF certificate is valid for 2 years.

TCF PAR (Prior Admission Request)

If you want to register in France for undergraduate level (Licence 1) or an architecture school but you don’t have DELF B2 or DALF C1/C2 level, you can apply for TCF PAR exam.

TCF PAR is composed of 4 obligatory parts:

Speaking comprehension (29 items)

Writing comprehension (29 items)

Control of language structures (18 items)

Writing expression (2 exercises)

The duration for the 3 first parts is 85 minutes and 60 minutes for the last one.

All candidates receive a certificate based on results evaluating them according to 6 levels (from A1 to C2) from the skills scale of the Common European Framework of References (CEFR).

The TCF PAR certificate is valid for 2 years.

TCF Quebec (TCF Q)

This test is exclusively for candidates deposing a request for immigration in an immigration office of Quebec, and who must certainly show a certificate of French language knowledge.

TCF Q is composed of 4 parts:

Speaking comprehension (29 items)

Writing comprehension (29 items)

Writing expression (3 tasks)

Speaking expression (12 minutes interview)

Each candidate choses himself/herself the exam parts of TCF Q.

All candidates receive a certificate based on results evaluating them according to 6 levels (from A1 to C2) from the skills scale of the Common European Framework of References (CEFR).

The TCF Q certificate is valid for 2 years.

TCF AFN (Access to French Nationality)

TCF AFN concerns about candidates who want to obtain the French nationality.

TCF AFN exam is composed of 2 parts:

Speaking comprehension (29 items)

Speaking expression (3 tasks)

All candidates receive a certificate based on results evaluating them according to 6 levels (from A1 to C2) from the skills scale of the Common European Framework of References (CEFR).

The TCF AFN certificate is valid for 2 years.
